Leofoto Quick Release Strap - a carrying strap for your tripod

A tripod is frequently part of the landscape photographer's often stuffed camera bag. For me, my tripod is an important part of my equipment that I rely on as a photographer. But it's also nice to be able to quickly switch from tripod to handheld while on the move. Attaching a carrying strap to your tripod makes it possible to carry the tripod easily when it is not attached to my bag.

The Leofoto Quick Release Strap

A carrying strap like the Leofoto Quick Release Strap kcan be easily attached to a tripod. I attached it to my Leofoto Summit LM-324CL tripod. The Quick Release Strap consists of three parts that combine to make a handy carrying strap. For my Summit tripod, I have the strap with 3/8-inch screw connection and the connection for a leg with a diameter of 32mm. The shoulder strap has a QR connection at both ends. On one of the three tripod legs you place the QDC-32 clamp with QR connector. The other attachment part you mount on your tripod with the 3/8-inch thread. By attaching these two attachment points to your tripod, you can easily attach the carrying strap to your tripod. By pressing the button marked with the word 'push' the strap is released. The length of the strap is 140cm and the width of the strap is 3.1cm.

When choosing the right strap for your tripod, you need to pay attention to what connection there is on the tripod (1/4" or 3/8") and what the diameter of the top leg segment is. Check here for more information.

The QR Strap in action

The carrying strap makes it easier to take the tripod with me when I don't have it attached to my bag. While photographing in the field it sometimes happens that I switch between handheld and the tripod. Normally I hold my camera in my right hand and the tripod in my left. With the strap I can hang the tripod over my shoulder and use both hands while shooting. Even if I have my Lowepro Protactic 450 AW II camera bag on my back, I can still easily hang the tripod over my shoulder.

With a simple motion I can adjust the strap of the strap from the longest to the shortest length. This makes it easy to change between the length needed to hang it over the shoulder and to be able to put the tripod on the ground without getting the strap dirty. This system is ideal for any photographer who is on the road a lot.

Conclusion

Having used the Quick Release Strap over the past month, I can say that this strap is very useful for a landscape photographer. The components of the QR strap are very sturdy, although it does take some effort to place it properly on your tripod. On my tripod (Leofoto Summit LM-324CL), the two connection points are just not right above each other so there is a twist in the strap. This is not very bad, but this is just an observation.

Plus points

  • Good price;
  • Supplied complete with all accessories;
  • High quality materials and workmanship;
  • (Stowed) very compact.

    Points of improvement

    • There may be a twist in that the contact points are not on top of each other;
    • The contact points stick out a bit, which can make attaching to a bag more difficult.

    Which carrying strap fits your tripod?

    Because of the many different Leofoto tripods, there is not just one universal carrying strap. There are a total of six carrying straps available, each with different connectors. To determine which carrying strap will fit your Leofoto tripod, pay attention to the size of the screw hole in the platform of the tripod. This screw hole can be ¼-inch or 3/8-inch in size. Also important is the diameter of the thickest leg segment. You can determine the diameter by looking at the first two digits in the name of your Leofoto tripod. For example, if you have a Ranger LS-365C, then you choose a QR strap with ¼-inch screw hole and Ø 36cm leg segment.
